Sugar Free Stuff

Recommended Posts

I tried sugar free Jello from the box which my wonderful husband made for me, but it's really nasty! I can't stand the artificial sweetness. Looking at my post op diet, everything says sugar free juice, popsicles, pudding, etc...is it really necessary or is it because they don't want us consuming the extra calories that are in the full flavor stuff? With the small amounts that we're eating this early out, I can't imagine overdoing it on those types of foods so I'm wondering if the sugar does something to the sleeve which is why the post op diets say that. Any input would be great.

I'd like to know that too, because i cannot stand artificial sweeteners, or, I could if they didn't taste 10 times sweeter than regular sugar.

Hey Griselda, I actually just found this same topic that someone posted last month so they may not answer my original post. Here's the link:

It sounds like having the full sugar has different effects on people; some can tolerate it and others cannot. I think I might give it a shot because I really don't like this and know I won't get enough liquids/calories in if I continue this way!!

Be aware that sugar is food for bacteria! If your sutures / staples are new, I wouldn't introduce sugar AT ALL because of a risk of infection, this may be why they say sugar free only. Give the sf a few tries and after not having sugar for a while, you may find that you actually like the taste. I can't stand the taste of real sugar anymore, it's just too sweet.

No sugar does not do anything to the sleeve, however most of us try to stay on 30 grams or less of carbs a day post op and a couple tsps of sugar will blow through that . Sugar is huge amounts of calories in small amounts of foods and because it raises or blood sugar levels it stores as fat in the body and really, really slows down weight loss if not stopping it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
