I had my surgery with him last tuesday 3/29. I think he and his team are wonderful. Can't say enough about the care I received at St. Peter's - the nurses, techs, etc... were all outstanding. The first few days were tough, but it's been getting better each day. I just saw him for my postop appointment today and passed!! Be prepared you will have a drain on the right side of your abdomen for about 10 days - I got use to it after a while and today he took it out. Keep me posted -- it'll be interesting to see how we both progress being 2 weeks apart. P.S. I live in Saratoga Springs, how about you???

I live in Clifton Park! So we're neighbors too! Good Luck! Have you been to any/many support group meetings? How are things the first few days? Have you been a puddle of emotions? I'm making myself crazy thinking about all this!

I haven't been to any support groups yet, but they gave me all the info in the hospital (you'll meet Marilyn - the bariatric coordinator) and I plan on going to the first one on the 27th of April. My emotions ran wild for about a week before -- and yes, I even went out for my "last meal" at Chianti in Saratoga and thought "what the heck am I getting ready to do"? My family and friends have been very supportive and I know a few people who have had the gastric bypass and did great, however, the sleeve was "unchartered territory".

My first few days were rough -- he also had to repair a hiatal hernia on me. I'm feeling much better today and I've already lost 15 pounds from my 1st day in the hospital. My feet actual have veins I can see.

I'll talk with you soon,

Sandy

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
