TOMORROW is the BIG day!!!

Recommended Posts

My Surgery is tomorrow, March 22. I'm nervous but with the help of some supportive friends and family I'm OK. I'm a nurse, So in saying that i believe we make the worst patients. I'm used to caring for others. So it's difficult to allow someone to care for me. I'm sure this is how a got in this situation anyway....In caring for everyone else I forgot to take care of myself. So this is the start of a new journey i finally decided to begin...

The only thing that i'm afraid of is that i may or may not be having the sleeve done do to some complications..My dr. asked if during the surgery he finds that i can not have the sleeve he said i have the choice to choosing another type of weight loss surgery..Hope it does not have to come to that...I have faith that everything will work out!!

Lisa, My mom is a nurse too, and was the one who took care of me throughout my entire surgery and recovery and she said the same thing you did about nurses being bad patients, so I got a chuckle out of that.

The success rate of the surgery itself (not even including the long term outcome) is so high - In my research before deciding to go with surgery, I read every single article I could get my hands on. I was happily relieved to see such low numbers of complications both in the OR and during the immediate recovery stages. Provided you pass all of your pre-op tests, you really should be just fine.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow, and looking out for an update. Get some sleep and good luck tomorrow <3

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
