Post nasal drip and "foamies"

Recommended Posts

I have had post nasal drip for about a week thanks to allergies. Today I had my second case of what I call "the foamies". The post nasal drip created a foamy mucus that sat in my stomach. I drank too fast and all of the foam came floating out of my stomach and into my throat. I was spitting that out for a few minutes. I described this to my surgeon and he said this is a form of vomiting. I guess he is technically right, but it is not like I over indulged. There just wasn't enough room for the foam and the drink. Has anyone else had this experience?

Not yet but I try to keep my sinuses clear by using a Netti pot to clean them out. So I avoid the allergy post nasal drip. Hope your allergies clear up soon.

Yes, this has happened to me twice. I have awful allergies, and was in the middle of a huge flare-up when i had my surgery, so the first time it happened was day 2 and the second time was yesterday (i'm 11 days out from surgery).

It doesn't feel like my stomach is so full, it has to get rid of it, but it does feel like something my new stomach just DOES NOT WANT in it, so i haven't worried too much.

I realized that what I was drinking had something to do with it too. I was drinking a Slurpee from 7-eleven ( I know, I know, empty carbs are bad) They put a foaming agent in Slurpee to keep it fluffy when it freezes. That and the post nasal drip combined to over fill my stomach.

I deal with rampant allergies/sinus issues a couple times a year. AND, yes, the nasal drip still fills up my sleeve, and makes eating difficult. The best solution I have found is either sudafed or Mucinex D as it dries up everything. Even at 21 months out, if I go into allergy attacks, and get sinus issues going on, I start medicating with Dayquil and pop Sudafed at night.

I haven't had it as bad as you, but anything that drains from my nose / sinuses into my sleeve doesn't get a welcome reception there. I normally cough up the drainage material, but have vomited it once. No foam, though. When it is bad allergies for me, I have some Claritin that is sub-lingual. I take one each morning.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
