Getting Sleeved Young

Recommended Posts

As long as you know what you're getting yourself into, and are committed to following all the rules and doctor's orders, then go for it.

There is no reason to stay fat if your insurance will pay for it!

Thank you all soo much for all the feedback!

I appreciate it. I had my consultation today with the surgeon, insurance, and a couple other people. When coming in the surgeon asked how old I was and made a few comments on my age. Like making such a big decision at 18, he did think it was a great choice though. And having the psych consultation will be very important.

I have to go through a psych consult, dietitian consult, go through a 3 hour class for nursing and physical therapy (how to take care of myself post-op), and then pass an EGD test. Which, I guess, means there sticking something down my throat to look at my stomach? Insurance gives very little trouble, so I should be good. I am very excited. Thanks again for your responses! [:

To keep everyone updated, I went through the process and got approved from insurance. My surgery is May 24th.

Thanks again for all the responses, it was nice to reread them again after being approved for the surgery.

Is "VSG info"- Avis, I live in London and want to go for the VSG option. The problem here in UK is that they will turn you down if you are a bmi 35 and lower. My current BMI is 31, has been much higher. It have been trying to keep it low lately. I am tired of my weight yoyoing. Any help about vsg for low bmi's like me?

What do you think about this Dr. Aceves? Does he take on low bmi patients?

Me and you are in the same boat; I too am 19 and getting sleeved in May. I don't have any weight-related health problems such as back pain but I can see myself having some later on, plus I have a bad family history of medical problems, so I'm hoping this surgery will spare me from most of that

Also on the same boat (May 20th!)!!! =D and i also have leg pains, but that was from playing sports in high school, but my family history is what is really pushing me for this surgery. My father is in and out of the hospital, and i honestly wouldnt want what ive been through for my future children. I think it's a good age to get sleeved. It's an opportunity to get healthy young, so that healthy habits are implemented early!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
