Hoping for March

Recommended Posts

My first post! I had my first pre-op yesterday with surgeon and have scheduled pre-op testing, counseling, nutrition appointment. I am hoping for a March surgical date. I am thankful to have found this forum as the amount of support and information is truly overwhelming. I am looking forward to charting my progress here! :)

Thank you! Let me know when you get your surgical date and we can cheer each other on! I got my appointment scheduled with the nutritionist and the exercise physiologist and I see them both on Monday 2/28. I see my PCP for pre-op labs and EKG on 3/2 and I have my counseling appointment later the same day. I told my boss today about the surgery and she was very encouraging which was a relief. I was surprised though that she encouraged me to NOT tell my co-workers about the surgery. We work in a very large agency (over 1,000) and she said the gossips won't believe that I had medical reasons for the surgery and that by the time the story makes the rounds the rumor will be that I had a facelift and a tummy tuck! I had been conflicted about whether to tell anyone or not so I am probably going to follow her advice and not bring it up. I have only told a close friend and my daughter along with my husband of course. Are you sharing your news with a lot of people?

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
