Ummm insult or compliment

Recommended Posts

Don't quite know how to take this one. . so maybe y'all can help me out with it. . . . I was working out at our local Gold's Gym where I always have been working out when out of no where comes this HUGH guy (bodybuilder trainer) and asks me if I would consider bodybuilding. I looked at him and told him I used to do that, he said "yes you can tell, you have the perfect body for it. A definate winner, would you consider doing it? You would represent Golds Gym and could win money to boot" . . . . I told him I'd think about it cause it does take a lot of time and effort and i wouldn't have a life . . . after a while of thinking about it I wondered what was it he really was saying???? I'm not flabby except a little on my pannus (apron) but that is it. . .I'm 50 years old (but look 30) I have lots of definition left over from the previous bodybuilding experience. So was this an insult, compliment or what? What should I do? Having had done this before it does that A LOT of time and everyday for hours at a time. . . . :P

Um insult? Noooo!!!

Wow, that is an incredible, great, fantastic and hugely ego boosting COMPLIMENT!! Have you seriously considered doing this before? You're right it will take a huge chunk of your time. Some body builders do workout 5-6 hours per day...

I say if you are truly interested, give it a shot. What's to lose? If you don't like it, just stop - but at least you won't be wondering "what if" ya know?

Let us know!!!

thin I would think it would be a compliment..Wow if you used to do this all the time then maybe it would boost your self esteem to get back into the grind. Just think it would definitely tighten all the things you needed tightened up. Good luck and take it as a compliment I would..:)

Would they give you a free membership and trainer? I don't think its an insult, It just sounds like he thought you would be good at it and be a good choice to represent Golds. I'm sure it could be a news worthy story if your went on and competed...Do what your heart says!

Thanks all . . .yes I've done this before and with a full time job now it would be a challenge, so it's something to really think about. . . but a 50 this old body can't do the things it used to at 20  I can still bench press 450 lb with legs, but I don't know. . . yes, the ticker is fine for this . . . i'll let you all know ok! Thanks for the inputs! Trainer would be free, need to find out about the membership since I've been paying into it for the past 6 years. . . . Thanks again all!

Wow! Major compliment. And you're 50? I'd say go for it if you can devote the time as it sounds like you ate definitely interested snd would enjoy the challenge.

Don't over analyze it, as everyone else has said it's a compliment. Give yourself a pat on the back and go on working out.

I think it's a great compliment! I've always wanted to do an amateur figure or natural bodybuilding competition. There's one not too far from where I live this June, so I'd be lying if I said I wasn't toying around with the idea of signing up. But the diet would sure put a damper on my boyfriend and I's routine of eating out daily, so it's a tough decision. But there's lots of people after 40 who still compete (and win!). Check out this link: http://www.bodybuilders.com/over40.htm You can click on "previous over 40 amateur of the week" link at the bottom of the page if you want to see other people, there are quite a few women.

I think it's an awesome compliment!! As for whether you do it, I think if you really enjoy it and have the time, go for it! :)

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
