Insomnia + possible pms?

Recommended Posts

I have TERRIBLE insomnia and had it before my op but it has since become worse. I am almost 6 weeks out and when it's time for bed, I lie in bed and find my brain is still too active or my body is restless and then I get anxious. I end up going to sleep around 4 or 5am every night and it's really impacting on my exercise now, as I have no energy to move. I'm getting a little worried and the last week I have lost no weight. During the night, sometimes my legs and feet feel a little swollen too.

I used to have terrible pms but for 7 months didn't have a period because I put on weight pretty fast. At the moment I feel like my body wants me to have a period because I'm so bloated, emotional, hot at night and have cramps and this has been going on for 2 weeks. I'm not sure if it is going to start or not and it's getting me down a bit. I feel like I'm sort of waiting for something to happen.

Has anyone else had problems with insomnia and irregular periods that stopped for a while?

Hi Faithstar...

I have insomnia too and really terrible RLS. I did get bouts of this before surgery, but it was very infrequent....now?? seems like every flippin' night I'm spinning round my bed like a crazy whirling dervish!!

I did some research and found a product called MELATONIN, it's a dietary supplement which is claiming to promote sleep. I've tried other such products but to no avail...at this stage I'll give most things a go. I don't want to go to the doc for "proper sleeping meds".

I'll let you know how it goes.

Hope things improve for you soon

xx

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
