Eating is an adventure!!

Recommended Posts

I had VGS on July 27, 2010. I have lost 70 pounds and most of my hair so far.

I have had problems with excessive belching and vomiting since day one. Any time I eat it might stay down and might not.

My surgeon is not very responsive to my issues. I have told him from the beginning that something was wrong and he just kept telling me that it was just too soon after surgery. I saw my primary care doctor and she felt that I had an obstruction of some kind. Called the surgeon and they ordered an upper gi series which showed a partial stricture which eventually opened up and an ulcer. Now I am waiting for the surgeon to get back with me and let me know how to fix it. Very frustrating.

I haven't lost any weight in the last six weeks and my primary care doc says its because my body is in starvation mode and my metabolism is non-existant right now. Hopefully, when I am able to eat better I will start to loose again. Working very hard to get my Vitamins and supplements in and my Vitamin levels are improving. Protein is another story. I have found Special K Protein Bars which I am able to eat and keep down. Can't keep any kind of Liquid Protein drink down. Plain Water makes me nauseous so I drink G2 and do good if I get 40 oz of liquid in daily.

I will say that if I had known that I was going to have such a struggle I wouldn't have done the surgery. But, whats done is done and now just have to figure out how to live with it. Hopefully, we will get my stomach issues figured out and I will feel better, eat better and start loosing again.

I work 10 hour days and don't have the energy to exercise yet.

So sorry you are having all these issues. I know it must be hard when other people are successful and you are not. I hope they can figure out the problem and get you healed so you can eat. Hugs are being sent your way!!!

Let us know what they do and how it works out. Sorry that you have had such an awful experience, made even worse by not being listened to.

I'm so sorry your surgeon ignored the issues for so long. A stricture, if found early, can usually be quickly repaired. I hope they can get you to feeling better, and wish you a speedy recovery. I hope your regret is short lived once your issues are actually properly addressed, and corrected.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
