Drs release

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 wks out and right now, I am suppose to walk which I am doing. My question is when will the dr release you to lift light weights. Rt now, I don't want to becaues my side is still sore sometimes and I don't want to risk a leak, but I was just curious about a time frame. Thanks.

I was told, no exercise for 3 weeks, but mine was the plication and I've got a cold/cough right now so haven't really got going yet (I'm 3.5 weeks out).

My guess is a bit longer for the sleeve. I'm going to ease in gently with Zumba and then go for it in New Year (I'll be 5 weeks out by then). I'll be interested in hearing what others say. biggrin.gif

I was told from my doctor 6-8 weeks before lifting weights. I did also have a hernia repair but I think the 6-8 is standard for most major stomach surgeries. I was sleeved on Dec 1st and my stomach still reminds while doing housework if I over do it with too much bending over, loading the dishwasher or doing laundry. Don't rush it, listen to your body.

I was told to not lift anything over 10 lbs for the first 6 weeks. I made the mistake of lifting my daughter at 2 weeks post op and paid for it. The incisions are still healing from the inside. You can herniate the incisions if you lift too soon.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
