I'm totally freaking out too! My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 9th and I so scared. This is the first surgery I will have ever had. I'm scared of the anesthesia, that something will go wrong with my procedure, or that I will have a post-op complication. I've had a rough year and I'm afraid that something will go wrong with my surgery. I feel like that would be the only way to finish out what has been a super sucky year. I am superstitious and I'm afraid that I won't wake up from my surgery. I know that I'm being absolutely childish, but I'm so nervous. I keep thinking that if I croaked out duiring my surgery that I will ruin my family's Christmas.....ugh! I want the surgery to be over with so bad.

Ok for those of you who have had no prior surgeries, I get your fear. Let me share this with you.. I have had 3 knee operations, 4 csections, gallbladder and Achilles tendon done in the past and most recently I had the sleeve done. I would guess that shows the odds are in your favor of coming through the surgery just fine.

these are totally normal fears... i was so afraid of going under and everything surrounding the surgery.. but I toughed it out and made the decision to take that necessary risk to improving MY life!

I cannot even explain how much all of these comments are helping me. It calms my fears just knowing that their are folks going through exactly what I am going through at exactly the same time. I have my final per-op appt tomorrow and I am now leaning more toward having the surgery than not.

I live near Portland, OR. I have not attended any of the local support groups because I don't have anyone to watch the kids at those times. Thank you for all of your support!

I really hope you decide to go through with the surgery. I know the fear is there, I even had second thoughts as the doctor was talking to us the day before my surgery. But I am so glad I went through with the it. VSG has changed my life in so many ways and has actually given me my life back.

Good Luck on your journey.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
