Hello,

I just commented on a post about what kinds of things you can do in the hospital during recovery. I mentioned the Health Journeys CDs because that's what I did when I had my last surgery (uterine fibroid) and it helped me relax and pass the time in a constructive way.

I did not have the surgery CD at the time, I was listening to general wellness and pain CDs (more for the deep breathing and relaxation - I've grown very fond of Bellaruth's voice). It did help me and I've already ordered the CD for surgery (they have one for everything). Check it out at http://www.healthjourneys.com/Product_Detail.aspx?on=1&id=29&mcid=10&catid=, great reviews and there are some audio samples as well.

No, I don't sell these and have nothing to do with the website. To be honest, I didn't like her voice or the weird things she says on the CDs when I first heard them but it was part of the pain mgmt program I was lucky enough to be a part of I did it along with everyone else. It didn't take long to realize that there was no denying how relaxed and good I felt later that night (after doing a tape) and even the next day. I had to buy some of my own. Unfortunately, they're just collecting dust at the moment. I'm going to do the surgery one every day (scheduling with Dr. Aceves mid December) and hope for the best. I feel better already as I've been quite anxious lately and worried about my decisions.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
