Do you know about any support groups they have in the DC area? I might be moving to Ft. Meade here shortly and would love to continue with a support group! My surgeon and NUT both said today that Walter Reed is a FANTASIC place for WLS!!

i had my surgery at walter reed in august. you can still make appointments to see the various doctors needed there but they aren't doing the surgery there anymore. i lived on fort belvoir and the new hospital is AMAZING! the nut's there are also wonderful! if you need to get into bethesda the staff is fantastic. i had dr lin and loved him. you can call the general surgery clinic and ask for phyllis. she is the bariatric coordinator and can give you all the info that you need. the dc area is a little slower though so be prepared! it took me almost a year to the day to get from seminar to surgery. the appointment process is longer and can be frustrating but the bethesda and fort belvoir staff really do all that they can to help you!

best of luck on the journey!

I have heard that they have great programs around there!! Glad I don't have to go through a waiting process since I'm already sleeved but I still need my follow-up care and I want to continue with support groups as I find them helpful! I'm just excited to finally get moved down there and get it all figured out! I have my last visit with my surgeon here at West Point today!!!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
