:) Sorta getting scared now. Leave for Mexicali tomorrow. For surgery Monday. No longer can say it is "out there in the future".

I'm worried about everything. I'll wake up sick. I won't get there on time. They'll do the pre-op testing and I'll find out something is wrong and I can't have surgery. I'll have a bad reaction to meds or anesthesia. I'll be Aceves' very first leak ever. I'll make it home ok only to experience complications later.

I can't shut my mind off! :)

Wow, I told myself I would be his first leak too lol. And I wasn't! It's only natural to think the worse but try to focus on all the benefits you will reap. Be sure to take the ativan so you won't freak out tomorrow night. I wish you the best :-)

Yep, we all have had those same thoughts in our minds. But, you know what? Everything will be just fine. Clear your mind and think peacful thoughts. If you believe in God pray to him to give you strength. He will you know!!! I think what helped me most was I had resolved to do this and I prayed to God to give me strenght. A calmness came over me after that. Don't worry..... be happy. Best wishes for an uneventful operation and a very speedy recovery tomorrow. I'll be thinking about you.

Best wishes and a few months down the line you'll wish you did it sooner. I'm glad I did. Since my surgery May 14th, I just hit the 50 pound mark today! Before you know it you will too! (My doctor even took me off two of my medications....my thyroid and cholestrol) Keep me posted!

You will do great. I just had mine done there on 8/20 and the closer we got to San Diego the more my mind started playing out all those same scenarios that you listed. I think it is just natural. I ended up doing great and am recovering much faster than I expected.

The staff is super nice (especially Sergio) and the Doctors are very involved in making sure you do well, and feel as little pain as possible while there.

I am confident you will be fine. Make sure to get up and walk about as soon as you can and a few times a day. It will make a difference in your recovery. I would tell you good luck but you will not need it. :tongue_smilie:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
