Hi, my sleeve date was 5/17 and I really hit a stall last month too, I finally joined a gym and started exercising, not just walking and the first week I lost 2 lbs, and 2 lbs the second week. It seems to really make a difference. I didn't want to, but it's very true what they say about exercising and dieting at the same time. Just have to do it. It works!!

cwalker...I'm in the same place as you.

I'm trying so hard not to get discouraged.

I'm journaling my food....I keep my carbs very low around 30g per day.

I get in all of my Protein plus some (usually) and all my fluids.

I don't eat any Pasta, rice, bread, potatoes.

I don't exercise as much as I should but a hell of a lot more than I did before, but I have started walking and I bought a treadmill. Before surgery I was pretty much sedentary because of my back problems. Everything I did hurt my back and I couldn't even walk around the block. So walking a mile to a mile and a half and even doing a little bit of jogging in there is a big improvement.

My only cheats and they aren't very often..maybe once or twice a month is a couple of drinks or if we go out to the movies I'll have some popcorn. That's it.

I lost 24 lbs pre-op

20 lbs the first month post op

15 lbs the second month

10 lbs the third month

and so far this month like 5 lbs.

I'm going off of memory there so I may be off a bit...but the bottom line is this sucks. LOL

Yeah, I hear you Goodlife. I worked up to the 2 miles a day and thatis major exercise for me and I haven't had bread, rice or potatoes since surgery. I use fitnesspal to journal AND I am losing some hair.I take all my Vitamins and all levels were 'perfect" but I know I go back to Dr. at end of October and the last comment when I left office was lets get to 170 and go from there, well it doesen't look like that will be happening anytime soon. I have the treadmill here, don't want to go to a gym. My downfall is a occasion margarita and bbq Pork rinds but I even limit those.Hang in there...going to take my frustration out on the treadmill.lol:angry:

yea I did Zumba, what a riot. Very fun. I did a yoga class Sunday with swimming. today I did weight training and cycling. Been trying a little bit of everything. I think the Zumba and yoga were the best. Wore me out! ha ha. I switch my machines with cardio as for some reason my feet go numb, so I bike for 10-15 min, eliptical for 10-15 min, treadmill for 15-20 min, and sometimes swim for 20 min. When I do the treadmill I'm only at about a 3, then increase the elevation instead of speed as my knees are shot. I'm going about 4 times a week, would go more but I'm watching my grandson too so have to work around that. Of course he is getting to be a lot more work. He is starting to crawl now and weighs 23lbs, big boy!!

I hadn't really worked out for 8 mo. I broke my ankle about 3 yr ago, gained 30lbs, so now I finally have that weight off. I had been trying for 3 years to loose it. Thing is I had just joined a different gym right before I broke my leg because I needed to loose weight. So I'm back where I started 3 years ago, only more pain. ha ha. But I feel that every pound I loose is not going to come back. It's great!!

I am 3 months post op..going to the gym and working out with weights 2 or 3 times a week. I get a tremendous amount of walking in per week as well. I have lost 30 lbs. so far. I probably only need to lose another 20 lbs. or so. Maybe that is why my weight loss isn't nearly as much as others?

Hi, Bevanne. It sounds like you are a lighweight and the loss is going to be slower, but slow and sure wins the race. Journal your food, it really helps alot and don't get discouraged. :biggrin2:

I know what you mean about the knee pain and I broke my ankle riding a bike years ago so I feel your pain. Your granboy sounds like a cutie, I have my grandgirl alot but she's 4 and wants to walk with me. I think maybe hubby just needs to take me dancing and he'll get exercise too.

Le me just hop on board the frustration wagon. I love the fact that my food intake is restricted. I love the fact that I've lost weight and feel better. I don't love the fact that I haven't lost more than a couple pounds in the last month. I'm not doing everything perfectly by any means--but my food intake and overall calorie intake is still so reduced/limited (and my activity level is so much greater) that I think I should still be losing steadily at this point. The only consolation that I've been able to find is to remind myself that even if I never lost another ounce (unlikely), the quality of my life has been dramatically improved by the weight that I have lost...but it's starting to look like I am going to have to fight if I want to lose much more weight--and I have a lot more to lose. Not only that, my appetite seems to be increasing. At a cost of $14,000.00 and 80% of my stomach, I had definitely hoped for a better outcome.

Oh my gosh Katt, I could have written that. I am 2 1/2 months out from surgery and I have only lost 38.5 pounds since surgery (7.5 pre-op for a total of 46). I really feel like I don't have a lot of restriction. I can eat a lot more than I thought I would be able to at this point. Now, I have not been an angel, and I know that is part of it, but I have never done well with deprivation. I have a few glasses of wine, a couple of oreos, and have noshed on tortilla chips a few times. I have since removed those items from my house since I can see them turning into "issues". Just started exercising so maybe that will help. Unfortunately I have a bad knee that is already acting up, so I might need to find something else to do.

I know this isn't a miracle, but I had hoped for better results. Thanks for the rant, now back to my Protein :001_tongue:

I couldn't agree with you more, everyone talks so much about how much better they feel and how much their quality of life has improved even only a few weeks out. I am 5 weeks out and have felt no changes, see no difference. I know that mental attitude is important and I try to be grateful but like you said, at a high cost to both pocket book and organ and I have yet to feel any benefit. AND I haven't eaten anything bad - pure Protein every day, less than 10g carbs a day, no junk, nothing but Water, all my Vitamins. I didn't realize I would have to live in the gym in order to see any results from the surgery, that's something I could have done without the surgery. Why isn't my "tool" working? I'm following manufacturer's instructions!

wow, how i can relate to all of y'all. . . try a stall for 3 1/2 months! it was horrible! but the best thing you can do about it is ignore it and go on. . . don't stress over it too much. I stopped stressing after a while and after a while of not thinking about it I dropped 5 lbs just like that. . . i think we think about weight loss too much. . we have this mental thing ingrained in us. . . we are obsessed about weight loss and now we have this great tool and think it should magically do all the work for us. . . we need to do alot of work in order for it to work. . . don't fret any it will come off, slowly but it will. . . rome wasn't built in one day either. . . good luck!

Don't forget that sometimes you lose inches, but not weight (due to more muscle buildup, Water retention, etc). So the scale is not always the most accurate way to judge total fat loss.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
