I am still at the hosptial in Mexicali and the care has been excellent, but I am not doing very well. They are keeping me an extra day. I have thrown up everything I take in and have done all the leak tests and I'm okay. They are medicating nausea but I don't even know if thats what it is. And now, I am scared to drink anything at all. What do I do? i am despereate to go home, I am in a bad place emotionally, and read everyone's quick recovery stories and feel so confused. Help!

I'm so sorry to hear you aren't feeling well after your surgery. I don't have any advice for you as I don't have my surgery until April 6th but I am thinking of you and hoping today is the day that you keep something down. Let us know when you start to feel better as i am positive you will soon.

Anna, try to remain calm. I know it's scary, and you are stressed. Please know I'm praying for you, and I hope that you feel better soon.

Some people have a rocky first few days. Don't be scared to take in tiny sips, make sure to ask for meds, and let them help you.

I was the same way!!!

Couldnt even keep the Water from ice chips down!!

You passed the leak test and that is the main thing so try not to stress.

I know I was told the same thing and it was really hard. Its just that your tummy is really really irritated in side and its going to take an extra day or so for you.

I promise you will get better.

xoxoxo

Anna honey, sending big hugs your way. We are all so different. Please don't compare anyone else's journey to yours. You don't have any leaks, that's the wonderful news. Focus on what's right. Your tiny Sleeve is swollen right now. I wasn't allowed even an ice chip for over 24 hours post-op. Sleeve doesn't want much. You're probably on an IV so don't need to worry about fluids today. Sip when you can and get them to give you those anti-nausea meds. Trust that tomorrow will be better. Maybe today you'll nap and wake up feeling a little stronger.

You're going to be ok, in fact, you're going to be just fine. The first few days are the toughest for us all. Know that we're here for you and sending good healing energy your way.

hugs and more hugs....

Anna,

I had my surgery with Dr. Aceves and had the same exact issue. I promise you that it does get better and they are doing everything they can to help you keep something down. The second day was the worst and all I wanted was for them to put it back because I was so tired of the dry heaves. It is absolutely horrible but you WILL be able to keep something down soon. The only thing that I could keep down was the chicken broth before I left. I know that you are afraid but just keep trying cause the sooner you keep it down than the sooner you get to go home. Please keep us posted and let us know when you are home. The extra day will only make the flight home a little easier.

Anna,

I hope you get to feeling better soon. Just relax and know that things will get better, it just may take a couple days. Just take it one day at a time and you'll be back before you know it! Sending hugs your way.

I can't speak from experience since my sleeving is in a week but my friend Vicky who was sleeved by Dr. Aceves just in February told me she went through the exact same thing...a bad reaction to the anesthesia. She threw up for three days and they asked her to stay another day too. Now she is so happy and has already lost 40+ pounds but she DID say it was a really rough hospital recovery so you are not alone! Ruth

I am so sorry Anna. I know several people who have gone through this too. Everyone is different. I know you're anxious to go home, but you need to stay in the hospital. They know best how to help you. Just think, if you were in the U.S. you would be paying extra for the extra days in the hospital. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos have much experience with this problem, and they will get it figured out and know when it's best for you to be able to travel. In the mean time, try to relax and do what they tell you to do. They know the right medication to help you.

We are all praying for you!

I feel so bad for you, I too had nausea on the second day, could not get all the blue dye down and the day I left I was miserable. We stayed an extra day at the hotel and I walked the halls and had ice chips which helped. Something cold felt better on my tummy. It will get better!!! Every day you will be amazed at how much better you feel. Prayers and hugs to you.

Linda

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
