Post Op Protein Question???

Recommended Posts

So I had the band done back in December of 08 and I have been on liquids a lot since then. I have came to love my Protein shakes. I drink Muscle Milk Light, Syntrax Nectars and Pre Workout NO explode. I drink 3 or 4 drinks a day. I hear how everyone has to gag down their Protein or kind find one they like.

My question is did you all like protein before surgery?? If you did the surgery change that and now you hate it!! I am getting a revision done on 04/05 and I can not even believe that I would not love my protein after.

Thanks

Kathy

I love my HNR800 before lap band, post lap band and now post sleeve. The rest of them am have always been so-so on them. Surgery has made a diff in some foods but not protine shakes.< /p>

I tolerated Protein Drinks better with the band. With the sleeve, all of them were a no go. I tried over 22 different, varieties, flavors, and no such luck. I finally found one that my husband uses after he lifts weights that was well tolerated, and I could drink. However, I didn't use it much because with regular foods there was no need to substitute with Protein drinks. I get all of my protein grams from food sources.

i couldn't handle Protein Shakes before surgery, for me they were so nasty. . . after surgery i started with Bariatric Advantage high Protein shakes, those were yum for me . . i started out with vanilla, then for a change got chocolate. . . both were great. . .i mix flaxseed Peanut Butter 1/2 tsp with the shake and it tastes just like a reeses pieces. . . love it. . .

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
