% of weight loss expected

My doctor says that the typical wt loss is 70%. Does that sound right to everyone?

My doctor says 60% of excess weight is usually lost in the first year...but doesn't say what to expect long term. I fully intend to lose 100% of it! :confused1:

I think the literature my doctor gave me said 65% EWL was averaged with the sleeve. I think at my last follow up appointment he mentioned that my 100% wl would be a bmi of 22.5, and that is not my goal...so that might mean people like me (who want to stay at a higher bmi) bring the percentage down?? I'll try to look through the materials I was given because this could be way off or maybe someone else will be a little more knowledgeable.

65-75% EWL during the first year was my surgeon's information. I don't even know how to figure my % stats so I just had a number that I wanted to get to, and was happy with that.

My doctor told me that he would consider the surgery a success if I got to a 30 BMI. He said a BMI of 25 would totally exceed his expectations for me. He doesn't go by the number on the scale.< /strong>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
