fruits, veggies, and healthy carbs...

Recommended Posts

so i'm officially 3 weeks post-op! i feel so much better, i've already lost 24lbs! yay! it's so exciting!

what i'd like to know is how many of you are super strict with the low carbs? i have drasticly reduced my carbs, but i still go over the 30g recomended.

right now i'm still eating mushy/soft foods....but in the future i'd like to be able to have apples, vegetables, maybe a cracker or two with my tofu egg salad.< /p>

will i sabotage my weight loss if i keep a low calorie count with a slightly elevated carb (maybe 40-60g/day) intake?

This is just my opinion and experience, BUT I have not been as successful as others...so take it for what it is.

I followed the low carb diet (30 carbs or less) for 1 month pre-op and most of the first 3 months post-op. At that point I decided to try to lose the rest of my weight eating a more "normal" diet so that I'd be sure to be able to maintain once I got to goal. I also figured that if I stalled, I could go back to low carb. My carb intake typically ranges from 30-100 per day.

Since New Year's Eve I've added a few too many simple carbs back in (mostly on the weekends) and really need to work on that. I'm in a bit of a stall right now, but REALLY want to get to goal (2 pound away again as of today) so I'm thinking I need to go back low carb for a couple of weeks.

You may want to run your ideas by your nutritionist/surgeon. Mine felt I was being successful enough and didn't mind me doing it this way (well, I didn't really ask, but did inform). Good luck on whatever you decide. It's kind of fun (in a weird kind of way) learning how to live again.

I've been eating about 700-900 calories a day, 60-80g of Protein and 40-60g of carbs pretty much thru out my journey. It's a marathon, not a sprint and I like some carbs in my diet. I try to limit and/or avoid the simple white carbs, but I occasionally have a bite or two of those also just for the taste.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
