I, too, have Kaiser in No. Cal. I am having my surgery in Fremont. I have 5 more lbs to loose before they will schedule my surgery. It seems like I should be able to take that off in a week, but it is taking every inch of the will power that I possess (which is not much). I will let you all know when I get my surgery date. I was having a terrible dilemma between the VSG or the RNY, but have decided that the best route for me is the VSG. Now that I've made up my mind (with all of your help), I'm anxious to get my surgery.:001_tongue:

I wonder why they require you to loose weight before surgery? Anyone know? Is there a medical reason? I know it takes a year of dieting to "shrink your liver" so that is not it. If we could loose weight on our own we would not need surgery!

Patience, NOPatience. yuck yuck.

Sorry could not resist.

Hang in there, your time is coming!

Hi Nopatience,

Welcome to VST. This is a great website with very helpful people.

I really get it about the last five pounds.

I'm at Kaiser Richmond. I have what I hoped would be my final pre-surgery weigh in tomorrow morning. Sunday I was 229, great. This morning, 230.6, not so great. I can't believe this is happening. I'm so ready to get to goal and get a case manager appointment so I can get a surgery date. I've eaten very light today and I'm headed down to the gym now to walk as long as my ankle allows (surgery last year). After walking, I'll do the weight machines. I'm determined to be at 230 (with clothes) in the morning.

Carolyn, there have been studies that suggest that people that lose 10% of their weight pre-op have less complications post-op. I think that Kaiser really goes with those type of studies. It also makes sure that people are really serious about doing the work both pre and post op. For me, it's given me time to really explore. I thought I wanted the band but discovered in my month before meeting my surgeon that I would only consider the Sleeve. I'm glad I had time to really figure it out and be sure. That said, I want my Sleeve TOMORROW! :001_tongue:

Thank you for your posts. I think that creatinglee answered carolyn24seven's question about why Kaiser makes us lose 10% of our weight before they will schedule the surgery. It's tough, but it'll all be worth it in the long run. I was a sugar addict but I've been off the sugar for a few weeks now, so I won't go thru withdrawals after surgery. I AM also learning patience (I think)! Good luck creatinglee. Fremont is a little different. I had my pschyc appt last week and as soon as I've lost my last 5 lbs or so, I just call the surgery scheduler, she then sends my chart to my surgeon and then they call me with the surgery date. That's it. No caseworker involved. Strange, isn't it, that it's the same company (Kaiser No. Cal.) but they work in different ways from one location to the next. Keep my posted, please. I'll do the same.:001_tongue:

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
