VSG 1/14 in Dallas with Dr Kim

Recommended Posts

My surgery is tomorrow at Forest Park Medical in Dallas, Texas with Dr. David Kim (Colleyville). I'll post afterwards and let you know how all went and what I'd rate the hospital! (Heading for that Loser's Bench!) :001_smile:

Madelyn, I'll keep you in my thoughts for tomorrow. I can't wait to hear about your experience with Dr. Kim.

Take care, and know we're all waiting for you on the loser's bench.

Tiffykins and MidwestGirl - Thank you for holding me in good thought yesterday during my surgery! It went wonderfully. And, Tiffykins, I really like Dr. Kim. I was very, very nervous about this surgery because of some past and present health issues. I went back a few times to him after reading something scary, or having second thoughts, etc. He never once acted impatient with me and listened well to my concerns. After discussions with him I always felt comfortable.

The hospital, Forest Park Medical, was great also. The nurses on the floor were very attentive and knew what they were doing. After having a few hospital experiences were I had to teach the nurses how to use their own equipment, show them how to insert an IV (no, I am not a nurse) - it was comforting to be somewhere where they actually knew their job AND liked what they were doing. The facility was clean and well staffed.

Both Dr Kim and the hospital get A+'s from me!

I was released this afternoon and am back home learning some new eating skills! I'm a little sore, but really don't need much pain med. On the loser's bench at last! :)

YAY YAY Madelyn, I was stalking the boards and your profile to see if you had updated. I'm really glad you are home and recovering. Take care of yourself, and rest when you can. Sip, sip, sip, walk, walk, and walk.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
