Hello.

So, I have taken a shower. Took my bandages off the incisions. 3 of them are doing very well - the smallest ones. The largest two don't seem to be coming along as well.

FYI: Operated on on Oct. 29.

The drain tube incision is still "openish". Looked slighty wet and pussy when I removed the bandage. The skin around it definitely reddish. The other incision near it is doing the same. Only this one did have an itty bitty bit more puss. After I took a shower, I wiped the puss off with tissue. It's only on half of the incision. And a line of puss was wiped off this half. I can understand this wound being more troublesome because it is right at my waist/fat fold. I have awaken at night a couple of times since the operation a bit hot and sweaty and I just know that this has not helped this. No outside environment explaination for the other "slighty pussy" wound.

Any suggestions? Any signs that will tell me if this is due to something being wrong inside? Am taking my meds and have no fever and washed and changed bandages daily.

Any info is helpful.

Thanks.

You need to call your doctor for sure. Any puss is not a good sign. It means there is infection. I am sure a round of antibiotics can fix it right up but call tomorrow. Go to the E.R. tonight if you start running a fever or have an increase in pain.

I agree with contacting your surgeon. Pus is definitely not a good sign, and you don't want to let an infection spread. Keep us posted on what the surgeon recommends.

I did a lot of hydrotherapy (used my shower head with different massagers) on all of my incisions.

Ok. I will contact my surgeon.

I am on a round of antibiotics so maybe my doctor will up it. Also, is this infection mostly on the outside having to do with the skin? And thank goodness, I don't have pain from them really. Whatever pain I have from them are equal to the other 3 incisions that are doing well.

Hydrotherapy is a good idea! I can do that!

THANKS!

Hello.

Well, today is a very good and new day. I knew it as soon as I woke up. Last night, before going to bed, I cleaned my incisions again. This time I used a little hydrogen peroxide. Let the sites dry out a bit and then reapplied my neosporin and bandaged as normal.

This morning - redness is gone, pus is gone, sites closing up and are doing VERY WELL!!! I am so happy! I have since re-cleaned them again as I did last night. I will do it again tonight before bed.

Thanks for your help!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
