Had a GOOD day today :))

Recommended Posts

We all talked about getting serious again, and today was my first day!:crying:

I exercised for 30 minutes this morning, and I decided to go back to basics like when I first had my surgery.

There is a site that talks about the 5 day pouch test, and I started it today.

Today is Clear Liquids, and I have done well, and I also got in 80 oz of Water :001_tongue:

I also had an appointment with my PCP and he and his nurse are some of my biggest supporters!! He kept telling me how proud he was of me! He's also curious if I had seen my doc that did my knee replacement, they're buddies and he kept say Charrette isn't gonna know its YOU!

So that kind if kept me motivated all day! I felt so good when I left his office. My nine months is Nov. 9th, so we're gonna go ahead and do my Labs this week, I go back to see him in 10 days!

Great First day!!!!!!

Anyone else have a Great day????

POST it here........

lets stay motivated!

Must have been something in the air, I went on a 45 minute walk and have packed the gym bag for an early morning workout. Good for you Chancie, keep it up.

Good going Chancie and Wing - I didn't have a good day - not sure what got into me, but I didn't do as good as I could have... I plan on turning that around tomorrow ... will be working out tomorrow night and eating health(ier) than I did today. Sometimes I swear I just self-sabotage myself - what's up with that!!

I think I should do the 5 day pouch diet too . It's a good way to get back to basics.

Had a good FOUR days!!

I've exercised everyday but today- and I really havn't done the 5DPT as it should be done, I just went back to basics, just Protein drinks and broth etc. I might try it next week- I'll be on vacation.

The 5DPT is suppose to help you get back to how you felt in the beginning of your surgery, it's not for those just starting out- I'm gonna be 9 months out on the 9th of Nov. and being at a stall and knowing I can eat more, I want to get that feeling back and more control back.

Here's the link explaining it better....

Surgical Weight Loss 5 Day Pouch Test

I'm also a member of her site, very informative but mostly RNY.

I think just a few days of really Paying close attention to what I was eating and HOW I was eating, made me refocus. I'm not a "normal" person.... I can't pretend to be. I will always have to pay attention to what I eat.

But I feel good today too!!

That's AWESOME Chancie - I had a terrible weekend - but had a STEARN talk with myself this morning and I am back on the bandwagon and going to pay more attention to WHAT I put in my mouth -- the next 3 days might be difficult as we are going to trial starting tomorrow; however, I think I will be sure to pack some Protein bars (now that I have found some I can tolerate) in my briefcase and take a few bites during break. I HAVE to break this stall that has been going on 2 weeks now -- I have, at least, been exercising so that has helped I am sure.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GIRL!!!

I am trying so hard to get myself in the right frame of mind again as well. I really wanted to reach my onederland goal by my birthday, but I don't think I am going to. I still have 3.4 pounds to lose and only six days to do it in.

My problem is when I get stressed, I eat. Well, actually, I graze, all day long. Last week was really stressful at work due to a major event on Saturday. This week is not looking much better due to people at work being angry with other people and me just trying to stay out of the middle of everything. But, I am forcing myself to track what I am eating and try not to graze.

Thanks for the encouraging words Vegas!

And Susan.. I don't think I'm gonna make it either, but am givin' it a good try!! I'm down to 208 again......Thats 9 pounds I would have to lose and thats not realistic this far out of surgery.

But I have not given up- I exercised again this morning, and have watched what I ate today.

I had my year visit with my Knee Surgen, and he was impressed with my weight loss, the mobility of my leg, and said I was looking and doing fantastic! ( his words! )

So that was another PLUS......... made me stay focused today!

I have reflected since my doctor visit, and told them how much i appreciated them, and how having my knee surgery finnally made me realize I HAD to do something about my weight. They kinda saved my life too..... becasue if I hadn't had the knee surgery, I would have probably kept up all the excuses.

But having a good surgen, I knew it was my end that needed to improve. I could hardly go check the mail without being out of breath, I would try to bring in the trash cans and it would feel like I was taking on such a major project, out of breath, my feet hurting, my back hurting..... I was miserable!

I know I'm kinda rambeling.... but I think those of you that have had the surgery know what I'm talking about, and those that are hoping for the surgery, hopefully this will make you see that there is a bright side to it...... health. It CAN get better.... and will........ but the road you choose to take is yours and yours alone. And no one can do it for you, and it is a daily struggle, and something you have to work at. But it can be done.

I am greatful today.........

and I had another GOOD day.

Chancie,

How interesting. It was knee surgery that prompted me to finally take the WLS plunge also. Made me realize that it wasn't bad knees that were the problem. I had knee surgery on my left knee end of May. I attended a WLS seminar mid-June. What a difference the weight loss has had on my knee and my life. You said it all. I love my SLEEVE.

Friday was my one month surgiversary.

I have now lost 40 lbs since starting a "modified" preop diet on August 16. The day I left home for surgery in Mexicali, my weight was 264 so I've lost 22 lbs since the surgery. I am thrilled and feeling so great. This weekend I "attacked" the weeds in my garden, and it was the first time in two years that I've been able to work all day at it without becoming fatigued after ten minutes. My garden is SO happy and I am absolutely THRILLED!

Now I am on solid foods, and am able to eat almost 2 ounces of meat before feeling full. Am getting in the required fluids and Protein almost every day. Several days I have been "over" on the carb limit and some days way under so I guess it evens out. I add some well blended blueberries or papaya to my Protein shake in the morning, and am hoping to be able to add some nutritious veggies to my meals soon. But for now, all I seem to be able to eat at meals is a tiny piece of meat...then I am full.

I will soon be reducing my BP medication to 1/2 dose as my pressure is down to 110/60. It used to run 140/80's most of the time. My internist and I are both really happy about that. For Vitamins I am taking liquid Vit D3, sublingual B12, and crushing/breaking up my multiple Vitamin and Calcium pill. I did not resume the glucosamine that I took pre-surgery, because MY KNEES DON'T HURT ANY MORE YIPPE. Yesterday I started taking a probiotic because I have had some diarrhea. This happens about once a week. Not much residue in, not much out.

I sleep more soundly, but wake up after 7 hours of good sleep, feeling so much more energetic than prior to the weight loss. I used to sleep 9 hours and woke up groggy every morning. What a difference!

Less than 100 lbs left to lose...I plan to have it off my bones in 6-7 months! I am so thrilled with my new life. Many thanks to so many of you who shared information and support that helped me get to this point.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
