BCBS Federal denied pre approval

Recommended Posts

Just dont give up everybody.I know here in wv..Federal bcbs just started approving about a month ago,so hopefully most others are too.Appeal and do what you can or maybe it may be really soon your company will start approving.I think these insurance companies are starting to realize all the complications with the lap-band and bypass etc are costing them way more money than if they just would start approving the sleeve.SO keeping fingers crossed and saying prayers for all who need this surgery that the insurances keep on approving..

I HAVE BSBC AND WAS JUST DENIED FOR THE SLEEVE AND APPROVED FOR THE GASTRIC BYPASS. I AM REALLY UNCONFORTABLE WITH HAVING THING MOVED AROUND. I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO GET THE SLEEVE DONE. I AM GOING TO APPEAL BUT DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW. AND IF YOU HAVE COPIES OF APPEALS LETTER CAN YOU SEND THEM TO ME AS A REFERENCE. THANKS SHANEISE@MSN.COM

I am fuming! I did all my research prior to my testing and was told as long as it was medically necessary, they would approve the sleeve. Now I am being told its too new and considered investigative. I know other regions for BCBS Federal have covered the sleeve. Ive talk to people on 2 different supports group, but I not necessarily in my state. I left a message with a rep to discuss but dont know how far I will get. They will approve the bypass. I understand most sleeves are self pay, but I just think this is ridiculous!:cursing:

Hello, after reading your comments I felt that I wanted to add one for you. I too have BC/BS Federal (Texas). I was told by my Dr. that the Insurance provider covers the gastric Sleeve and the Roux-n-y bypass. I thought I would let you know. Also I need a revision from the Band to the Bypass due to band problems. My Dr. told me I could ahve either surgical procedure for it is up to me. However he did tell me the pro and cons of both types of surgerys and what he discussed with me was true facts because as always I do my own research. I am just trying to find out if I have to go through all the same thing as to testing, etc or not. If anyone knows or had a revision please let me know for i would appreciate it. I was always told that the federal Health Plan approves more than anyother plan did or does.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
