The days just before getting the band can be an emotional roller coaster. I went through moments of excitement, panic, excitement again. But, once the actual morning of the surgery arrived, I was completely at peace. If you have done your research and committed to making this work, you will do just fine.

I did not have my band done in Mexico, so I cannot speak from experience, but I have read several posts from other bandsters who did and am hoping they will respond to your post. From what I have read, they have all had very good experiences and the staff there work very hard to make everything as easy and comfortable for you as possible.

That's OK, worry about that small stuff, and keep your mind off the surgery! From what I've read on this board, you will meet others down there doing what you are doing. They seem to form instant bonds with each other and manage to even go shopping! You will do fine. Think of it as a great adventure, of which it is. Enjoy your time away and be optimistic for your future. Get as much rest as you can. And tell the nice nurse to take care of your glasses!

You will do just fine! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
