In Your Opinion

Okay - so I am having NO luck finding the Syntrax Nectar products in Las Vegas - have called 4 different GNCs and none of them carry it, as well as several other health food stores. One store does carry it but is out and MIGHT have it in by Saturday. I have to find something with Protein that I can do NOW. I can't tolerate the Isopure. So I'm guessing the next best thing would be the Matrix products?

What are the best flavors? Any other suggestions?

I have had a massive headache since surgery and I can't get rid of it -- I am sure part of the reason is the lack of protein because I can't seem to find something I can even just tolerate, let alone actually enjoy.

Am off work today so going to go and get something ... suggest away ladies!!! SOON!

After passing out on post-op Day 5, Nina got in touch with the surgeon (don't know which one) and later Gaby, who gave me the OK to use Soy Slender drinks (cardboard containers in grocery stores in health food isle). I also purchased the Special K lemon Water. It had 50 calories and 5 g Protein in 16 oz and helped me get through a 13 hour work shift until I could go to full fluids. Email Gaby.

The Special K Protein Water powder mix is one of my favorites. It's 30 calories, 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of Fiber with a 16oz bottle of water. I buy the powder packets of the Iced Tea flavor, I don't like the pink lemonade or the kiwi strawberry flavor.

Other than that, I'm of no help hun.

I have the SpecialK water but at 5 grms I'd have to drink alot of it to get in my 70 gms. a day. I am drinking it (didn't know it came in packets) I have the Strawberry-Kiwi, which I like, and a berry - which is eh, okay.

I stopped in Whole Foods today on my way home from the chiro (I have TMJ and when my jaw is out I have massive headaches and yep, it was out - got adjusted and now don't have the headache I've had since surgery) ... anyway ... there was a lady working in the supplement section and she recommended a product that she uses every day.

It is MRM 100% All Natural whey Dutch chocolate. It has no artificial sweetners or flavors, hormone free, antibiotic free, BSE Free; 1000 mg L Glutamine added. 1 scoop is 85 calories; 1 g total fat (0 Sat.); 1.5 g carbs and 18 g protein and it's made in Oceanside, CA.

She said it is great mixed with water - that is how she takes it every day. She was funny because she pointed out others that had more protein and then whispered "but they taste like crap" ... There were 36 servings and it was $29. So I'll give it a try and let you know.

Try going to:

Netrition.com - The Internet's Premier Nutrition Superstore!

Search under "Syntrax" and you'll find all the flavors available.

Oh I know I can find it online, I was trying to find it locally and was told GNC carries it - apparently NOT in Las Vegas. I will probably order some online tonight, I just wanted to get some ASAP to help me get in my Protein. Hopefully the new stuff I just bought will take care of that issue.

They taste good to me! especially compared to the powdered.......i figure i will use the all before then.

I also really like the soy Protein 95!

Okay this stuff isn't too bad -- I think it would have been better if I had either mixed it with cold Water and/or put it in a blender with ice cubes. I also added some chocolate free Syrup which made the taste a tad bit chocolately (sp?/word?). I will try it tomorrow morning with the cold water or ice ... the scoops are HUGE and they recommend mixing it with 3-4 oz. of water, milk, fruit or yogurt.

I'll keep you posted!

And is this considered a clear liquid?

I just used GNC unflavored Protein powder and put it in crystal light. It really wasn't clear anymore, cause the Protein Powder isn't clear, but it's thin enough to be clear. I don't know if I was bending the rules or not, but it worked great for me.

Well, according to email I got from Gaby it is considered a thin liquid which falls into clear ...

This is what she sent:

Day 6-10 ( thin liquids )

All of the above [which is the chicken broth, etc.] and:

Natural Vegetable Juices ( example Carrot, V-8 juice )

Protein drinks mixed with Water ( example Matrix )

Whey nectar Protein Mix

I drank a small can of V8 (low sodium) last night - it tasted SO GOOD. Only 1 g protein though and I haven't found any unflavored protein powder yet; I'm going to order some on line and pay extra for overnight delivery I think.

Is it REALLY totally unflavored though? When I was in there, I asked for unflavored why Protein that was really unflavored and the guy said "welllllllll, there really isn't such a thing"

It says unflavored right on the jug. I have no sense of smell so that could be the reason I didn't think it changed the flavor of anything I put it in.

I was going to buy some but the smallest package they had was $17 ... I may just order some from Syntrax when I order the nectar since I can't find it here anywhere

Why do you have no sense of smell? You can take some of mine as it's become extra sensitive since the surgery.

I think it's from having so many years of allergies. I can smell something if I stick it right up to my nose, but not any other way. I had my daughter stick her nose in the jug and ask her what it smelled like, and she said there was no smell.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
