Aspartame

Recommended Posts

Crystal lite is like my go to with Water but the third ingredient is aspartame....should I be drinking this since it has that in it even though that's what the doctor specifically says to drink because there's no sugar in it? I'm just curious if anyone else has noticed it in the list of ingredients or not.

I studied some nutrition when I qualified as a sports masseuse. In my knowledge aspartame affects you by causing people to crave sugars. As it gives a fake sugar rush. I would avoid it personally. I had dreadful trouble getting over sugar addiction. If hate to have to try again.. Only my opinion.

I am a sweet & low fan, drink it all the time (hot tea, coffee name it) and I drink CL as my back up drink as well to switch things up.

The only response you are going to get is "sugar is better" "artificial sugars are bad bad bad" lol etc (quoting a previous topic posted) but these are personal preferences and not band related

I've read that all artificial sweeteners spark sugar cravings. I have not experienced that myself, but that's what some of the latest research shows.

I would say, if you like Crystal Lite, and don't have any issues with it - go for it! Generally, I use Splenda whenever I can, but I'll use Equal if that's all that's available. These days, I use it only in my morning coffee. All else I drink, is Water. But I honestly do not see an issue with it, unless you specifically notice something negative.

My thoughts exactly.

If you have a bad reaction to it, then don't use it. If you don't have any adverse reactions then enjoy.

Another one to try is Stevia.

I really want to like Stevia, but I just can't get used to it. I've tried all different brands, but it still has a different taste. But health wise, it really is the best choice for a non-caloric sweetener.

Oops......duplicate post. This site seems really slow this morning. Every post I've made, seems to take forever to save.

Xylitol is the best option for me. It tastes the most like sugar but is healthier than most, like stevia. However, in large doses, it can cause diarrhea, though I've never had that experience, I don't use that much.

Xylitol can cause diarrhea? I'll think I'll try it! I'll pick up some Xylitol, and get rid of the Miralax :P

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
