Couch to 5k

I completed WEEK 1, DAY 2. Woohoo! I went a little over a mile today. And to be honest, it really was a little easier today than on Monday. I also am down 6 pounds (3 lbs last week & 3 this week)! This is awesome. I increased my Water intake and exercise, so I think that's the difference. Excited. :D

Week 1, Day 3 done! And in the rain...which is kinda a big deal, given that I'm black and rain is my hair's enemy. :-D

Anyhow, it feels good to have accomplished this!

I just started this last week. Today I'll be doing week 2, day 2. So far so good! I remember trying this 100lbs ago, and literally couldn't make it past the 5 minute warm up!! I've always wanted to be a runner! Looking forward to the day I can run an actual 5K!

I want to try this, but have various pains going on. My feet cramp and my shins hurt when I run. Legs and ankles dislike my weight too. Anyone have this type of pain when starting and get over it? I have not started the program but really want to :( .

Jenny,

I felt the exact same pains before I started. I completed the 5k program and I'm doing the 10k right now. The biggest things that helped me before I started running was stretching for at least 10-15 mins. It helped my shin pain a lot and plus I was losing weight in the process so that helped too. Drinking a lot of Water before you run won't get you dehydrated either. Get a good solid pair of running shoes too with some Dr scholls inserts. Go to a running store around you and they will help you out! If you have any questions let me know. I'm more than happy to help out!

I used to have a problem with shin splints. It helped me a lot to wear the compression sleeves for your lower legs.

Thanks guys! So no more excuses for me then! :P

Honestly, that is very useful information....I really appreciate it! The phrase "Just Do It" comes to mind.

Week 2, Day 1 - Done. Today was a little rough for me. I finished, but I was coughing quite a bit. It's a little cool now, so I think that had something to do with it. Maybe a lil exercise induced asthma. I may have to get an inhaler. We'll see.

I'm hanging in there!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
