Excited and Scared on this journey

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I have been on my journey for this procedure since June and the time is almost here. My surgery is set for September 12, 2013 and the closer the date gets here, the more my nerves set in. I have been struggling with my weight my entire life and decided that I had to do something. My weight is causing health issues with my back, my knees, and my ankles. I decided to take this route since everything else I have tried didnt get me where I need to be. I just have fears about all surgical procedures. I'm trying to stay positive and was looking for friends and plenty of advice on the way. So far I'm finding this site to be very helpful and answering a few of my questions. I have so many in my head though..like..how long will I be out from work? Will I be able to keep any food down? How will I get all of my Protein intake? How much pain will I be in? When can I start back working out??..the list goes on and on. As I'm reading, I'm finding the answers to some of these questions but I also know everybody is different and will recover from the surgery differently. Countdown begins...I have 1 week and 6 days...Ready for this lifestyle change....

I'm scheduled for September 11. So, we can be buddies :) I'm excited and terrified all at the same time. But, this forum is awesome. I've learned so much here. So, while I'm scared, I'm confident that I can do it. We can handle this :)

Only one day apart :o I totally agree that this is a awesome forum. I really love positivity in any situation and that is all I see along with some great motivators.

Hi there! I am having surgery on September 12th and I totally understand what you are saying. One second I am super happy and the next I get nervous. I really think it is the food addict in me saying "If I can't eat, what am I going to do?". I think it will be a real mental challange. How is your pre op diet going?

I just keep motivating myself. I was in a clothing store yesterday looking around at my current size clothing, size 16. All of sudden I just stopped and said to myself "What are you doing? You are never gonna wear this size again." How exciting! I can't wait to be healthier and NOT tired!!!!

I see that we have the same thinking process about shopping for clothing right now. I was just about to buy some pants yesterday but put them back once I started thinking about my upcoming surgery. My pre-op diet is going well. I'm actually surprised at myself but I started super early on it so that my body could be ready for sure. I'm eating right and working out daily as usual. My health is my focus also and not the size. I got faith in us both that we will be a wonderful success story!!

As you yourself stated everyone is different. My doctor said I could return to work in 1 week unless it was physical work than 2 weeks. I own my own business so I had arranged for a month off! Being the boss does have some advantages! As far as the recovery goes mine seemed pretty easy. I did not have the shoulder pain that most get just a few days of discomfort that was all. As to food I was on 2 weeks of liquids Protein Shakes twice a day than 2 week puréed foods and now soft foods for 2 weeks. This week it's on to a regular diet. But all in all worth every bit! You'll do fine but butterflies are to be expected! Best wishes to you.

Hi all - my surgery is also scheduled for Sept 12. I'm also nervous and haven't been sleeping- but I am also ready for this new chapter. I know that if I don't do this surgery, I will just be more overweight. I'm going to try my very best & hopefully everything will go alright. Good luck to all of you ;) this site is helping me alot ;)

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
