First Fill EVER, had Band 3 years ago

Recommended Posts

I had my band placed 3 years ago. I ended up getting pregnant right after surgery. I moved away from my surgeon and was looking for a doctor to continue my care when I was laid off after our company was purchased by an investment firm. I'm traveling 6 hours to see my surgeon next week and am hoping to get my first fill. I'm nervous since I'm not close to her in case something happens but I'm also tired of not using my band!

I lose my benefits in September so I'm not sure if I can squeeze in another fill or afford another trip if I need another. I know it's not idea but at least I can get the ball rolling? Any advice?

I asked the do's and dont's before my first fill and the woman who booked it said they didn't have any......

I just had my first fill today. Surgery date was 5/6/13. I travel a bit to see my surgeon, The office is near my work but about 30 miles from home. Right after the fill Dr. gave me a glass of Water to drink and sat with me for a while to be sure that everything was going well and I was feeling well.

After a few minutes of drinking and talking I was on my way. You have a long ride to and from the Dr. I would do what Missy suggests and stay at the office for a while if you can and make sure that your feeling A-OK before you head back home.

Best of Luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
