Hello everyone, I am new to this foram and I usually just scan and read everyone else's post but today I decided to create an account and post a topic. I am a very private person, but I think interacting with others on this issue will help me to be successful. I have been overweight for about 10 years now and I am 39 years old. I am hoping that the lap band will be the tool I need to lose the weight and get rid of this annoying diabetes. I at the Pre-op phase and have not yet had my first appt. but I have been through this before so I know the drill. 2 years ago I was scheduled to have the Gastric Bypass and 2 days befor the surgery I cancelled it and told myself that I can just lose the weight on Weight Watchers. No offense, I still love Weight Watchers. Anyway, the diabetes got worse and now I am 2 types of medication and I am always tired. After researching bariatric surgery, I feel that the Lap Band would be better for me than Gastric Bypass. I don't mind losing weight slowly just as long as I am losing it. I look forward to hearing your story and sharing mine!

HI, I think you are making the right decision. I was told I could have it removed at any time if need be in the future. I lost 70 lbs and then stabilized for several years. Having a mammogram two years ago they found a large growth in my left breast. Before going in for breast removal we had the saline removed from my band. I did not want to part with my band.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
