Supposed to be Self-Pay, But insurance Billed Question??????

Recommended Posts

I was denied through my insurance for the surgery, not sure why, but I ended up going ahead as a self pay as I could afford the payments with adjustments. I just received a claim paper from my insurance that they were billed for the surgery and it is being processed???? Anyone else have this problem? I am so confused. If the insurance covered it than why am I self-pay? I contacted the billing department and she is going to call and find out what is going on.

It's common practice to bill insurance for most all procedures. Insurance will either deny or accept responsibility and should also indicate how much they would have paid if it were covered. This should be the amount you would owe?

I wouldn't make waves till insurance denies the claim? If they pay it, won't you be the lucky one?

Thanks everyone! I just found it so weird. I checked the claim status and it is a rather large amount and shows as processing with services being covered so I am awaiting for the billing department to call me back with any answer. They billed it twice because I was seen on Monday for the endoscopy which was approved by my insurance and then again on Thursday fro the surgery (I had a hernia repair along the lap band) and given the amount, it has to be for both as it was more than my severely broken ankle surgery from February.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
