Good luck! You can do it!! :D

I was a total diet coke junkie, and gave it up the day before I started my pre op diet. It was hard the first couple days, but it's been 4 months now! I honestly don't even miss it anymore!

I used to love diet coke. Like it was in my veins, I didn't give it up until my pre op fast (2 days before surgery). But I'm proud to say, in the almost 5 months since my surgery, I have not even touched the stuff. Anything carbonated in fact. I have been tempted to see if I could drink it since my surgery but I never let myself because I'm half afraid I'll really hurt myself and I'm half afraid I won't hurt myself and I'll go back to my soda drinking ways.

Same thing with swelling carbs. Anything that can have the potential to hurt me gets avoided, I've gotten used to Water and things like 0 cal Powerade and propel zero and Crystal light. My usual drink when going out is now unsweetened iced tea (sweetened with splenda), and if I'm feeling naughty and want a bit more flavor I get a raspberry iced tea. Though I really like that diet Snapple half and half they just came out with.

Long story short, every once in awhile, I crave soda but there are so many options I can have that I just put it out of my mind

That's the reason I am going off now , I am to fearful of doing anything to damage myself or the band , I'm 61 days from surgery and want to be diet Pepsi free long before I have to be

Good luck, it's always a good decision to go soda free, band or not.

It's good to break the addiction. I found that breaking the addiction and habit was the hardest part. I drink more Water and teas now. Because I was able to break the cycle, I'm able to drink the occasional soda and enjoy it now with no remorse. But it's not a complete part of my life anymore.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
