MUSC now offering lap band

Recommended Posts

DR. Byrne and Dr. Morgan from MUSC in Charleston are now offering the lap band surgery. Noone has been banded yet and I hope to be on the list as soon as I get my package filled out and faxed to their office. They only offered RNY before and I absolutely knew that I did not want this. After about a year of research, I finally came to my senses and thought that I would be left with no other surgery choice until this week!! I am so happy! The band is what I want and I hope that everything goes smoothly. I have MUSC Options as an insurance provider and they cover the procedure. It also scares me to see how many people go to Mexico to have this surgery then get home and have nowhere to get follow up or fills. Now that MUSC is offering this, I hope more people will come to Charleston for their care. I'll post soon and keep ya'll updated.

I grew up in SC and miss it sooooo much. IF you are reading this and still living in South Carolina never take it for granted. South Carolina is wonderful and so are the people that live there.

Ok with that said, I am currently living in New Jersey and I wont say how I feel about that but I was banded here by a wonderful doctor.

Now here is the question, my cousin who still lives in SC is looking for a band doctor.............any one have someone that would like to referr? She has checked into a couple of doctors so far and wasnt impressed with either of them.

Any help you could give would be appreiated

Dr. Givens at Lexington Medical center is a Dr. that she should check out. My brother in law had surgery with him and had only good things to say.

tammy, i could not find a doc experienced enough in the state of s.c. for me. i was self-pay,monterrey, mx. this was because of dr rumbaut being the most experienced doc i could find. he was great.the cost was $10,600.

he has a friend named dr Ponce in dalton,ga that i will probably use for fills. maybe she should check out dr's in atlanta/georgia. there is also dr champion in marietta, ga. i was going to use him if ins had covered.:biggrin1:

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
