Sarah' date=' that is my fear too - one little comment to one of their friends - then boom, all the mothers know... sorry to hear that happened - although maybe at least they were supportive of you when they found out?[/quote']

All my friends have been very very supportive!!...their step-mothers reply to her after she told her was "oh well not everyone can lose weight the natural way and lots of people get sick an have complications"...I had a little chat with the ol step-monster and she has t opened her mouth since..she herself is a large lady and when I run my 3 miles every day I make sure to run past their house

I have the same concerns. Two daughters both healthy. I have only told my sister who was banded 2 years ago. I don't plan on telling anyone. Just eating less and working out. Hopefully that works! I do feel guilty about my girls and parents. Hope Mom is not mad!

I am divorced with 3 children. Daughters that are 9 and 11 and a 16 yr old son. I told my son and he has been involved with the entire process. He was even my driver for the surgery. I really do not want my ex-husband and his wife to know because then everyone on the PTA and soccer team and so on will know. So I originally told the girls I was having a stomach surgery and it was no big deal. Finally, as the surgery got closer I ended up telling them that the surgery would help me lose weight. They were so, so excited and started talking about shopping and all that. I made sure to never say the word "Lapband." I then explained extensively that this is something that is private and it's ok for families to have things that are private. I explained how important it is to not tell even one friend. They've done great. My ex even asked them what kind of surgery I was having and they said they didn't know. I really think its a judgement call and depends on the individual child and their maturity level.

I should amend the above... When my ex asked the girls what kind of surgery, they actually said they weren't sure what its called and to ask me. What I first wrote made it sound like I told them to lie.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
