Please tell me I can have my coffee!! I had to stop smoking and I am still working on that! If I have to give up coffee too what will my family do MOVE OUT ON ME! They would not be able to be in the same zip code as me and they know it. They are praying please let her keep her coffee.

I dunno where your band is but mine is on the outside of my digestive tract :P .But seriously drink coffee if you want to I say. I do not drink it because it fills me up and then I do not eat.

Biggest threat would be high calorie coffee drinks with lots of sugar or whole milk and flavored Creamers.< /p>

There are still a lot of anti-coffee ninnies out there who want to demonize the drink as being unnatural and unnecessary. I agree with some other posts that your doc might fear the extra calories you could add to the drink and there are physicians that fear you may drink coffee with your meals which is still a no-no with some docs(not mine).

Mine doesn't really care about drinking coffe or drinking while I eat as long as I don't use my coffee to wash down my food. Sips a minute after a bite is OK.

I was just told no caffeine the first week while on liquids since it was a diuretic, but he didn't say anything for after the liquid week! :) Just no foo-foo, full of calorie coffee drinks which is what I loved! LOL

No, his fear isn't the calories. He was very specific about the issue being the acid, and it's potential effect on the band, and potential ulcerative issues. From all the feedback, it seems that he errs on the side of caution.....which is fine. But I guess I'll just have to pick my poison. I've given up my #1 OTC painkiller of choice - Ibuprofen. And I get the no aspirin, too. But my sacred coffee is a WHOLE other story! :P

My Dr. gave me a script for as custom mix of liquid ibuprofen, but at 43.00 a bottle co-pay, I use it sparingly.

I feel ya! But he did however say that my prescription anti-inflammatory, Mobic (meloxicam) is okay, as long as I stay on Pepcid or Prilosec. I have a herniated disc, which isn't only back pain, it's pain down my leg, etc. Mobic is the only thing that touches it, so thank God it's not on his no no list.

Hmmm.......designer ibuprofen... I'd like to know what it's cut with, that reduces the negative effects. What is it called? I may need to request some to keep in my arsenal :-)

My mom used take ib profen regularly and it caused a hole in her esophagus. My doctor won't let me take because of my creatine (sp?) levels. I take Tylenol arthritis stregnth and it works really well for me. Did ib profen hijack this thread? Lol

Oh my! LOL! You should have put a warning on your post. I took a sip of my shake while I've been reading posts and had to spit my shake out when I read your post.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
