2 questions....

Recommended Posts

1. I've been consistently doing cardio since my surgery on 12/17. Now it's time to add strength training and I have no idea what to do. Suggestions?!

2. I recently watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and it's got me interested in juicing. I was thinking about doing a juice fast. Has anyone tried this?

Hi kris. For strength.training I strongly suggest going out and getting a fitness magazine or two. Not only will it give you great ideas and tips, but it will totally help motivate you. I've become a huge fan of body weight exercises. The basics. Push ups, squats. They work the whole body great. Start building up strength by staying on your. Knees while doing them if you need. Bi cep and tri cep exercises can be added.

As for juicing, I just got interested as well. My only concern would be that I'd be adding too many calories in liquid form. I'm still up in the air about it.

Best of luck with everything.

I'm always lost with strength training but have recently started adding some weight lifting classes n their pretty fun. Juicing for me would add too many calories n sugar. This is me tho n I would much rather have Protein. I've always been that way.

For strength training, go for heavy weights less reps. Do your reps slowly and you don't have to do a lot to make your muscle gets the work out.

I know plenty of people who do juicing....there is a juice bar at the health club I go to and occasionally purchase on of the choices.....

But given the choice, I would rather have something high in Protein......so I stick with my custom made smoothies....

As far as weights, not as much as I used to...after 60 minutes of cardio I'm usually too tired....

But it is essential to work out the "Visceral" fat marbled in our muscles.....so I stll go through all the machines at least 3 times a week....alternating upper body with lower body days...

and ALWAYS doing ab crunches on all days....used to do weights every day of the week, alternating upper and lower body...but since I stepped up my running not so much....plus I'm now down to about 15% body fat....

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
