Hi HH,

Wow, I wish I didn't have a presurgury diet. Lucy you! To answer your question, Dr. Anderson and Cahn do assist each other. With regard to diet, I am thankful to have Dr. Anderson--Dr. Cahn makes you go on a diet of 3 slimfast a day and vegetables. That diet would have done me in. I do see though that Dr. Cahn's patients usually lose more weight presurgury than Dr. Anderson's.

As for the reason's behind the presurgey diet, yes, I think your understanding about the eliminating the exces fat in the liver is correct. When I went to the Lap Band Information seminar, they had a slide of a fatty liver and then showed one during the surgery and what a difference.

I think the Doc's said that the liver is more easily damaged when they have to move it to place the band if it is very fatty.

Anyway, good luck with your surgery. Maybe we can compare notes afterward.

Linda

So Hope, are you from Boise? I see you and Linda talking about Dr Anderson. And yup, all of the lapband surgeries are done by Cahn and Anderson together. Dr Cahn is my surgeon but Anderson assisted.

Thank you for the kind words about my progress. I'm glad it inspires others!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
