Day 7 of Pre Op and White Knuckling It~

Recommended Posts

On Day 7 of pre-op shakes and today I really feel like I'm white knuckling it. I have been trying to distract myself and drink lots of fluids but I feel my "resolve" thinnning a bit. Thursday I go for pre-op and weigh in (doc wants me to lose 10 pounds). I am already 9 lbs down and will make the goal however I am pretty sure he will make me stay on the shakes until the surgery date which is the 7th (the following Thursday). I am hoping to dig deep and find the energy to get through it. I know this is part of my mind "letting go" of food....but wow....it certainly challenges every part of you!

Good luck my pre-opers........we can and will get through this!

I know how you feel! I would like to say that I did not find it easier as the days went on although the first day was horrible. It is wonderful that you lost 9 pounds!!!!!!! I am on 9 cups of Water right now...

It isn't easy. I'm doing pre-op shakes as well. I just think about how much easier it will be for the surgeon to see what he has to see, without that little bit of extra weight or a larger liver. I want the surgery as safe as possible. Keep your eye on the prize :)

I am on day 8 and it's harder now than the first few days for me. the only thing keeping me going is the thought of oatmeal and low fat squash Soup on Saturday post banding!!! Until then I am chewing a lot of gum and drinking a lot of diet soda and Water with some warm tea.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
