To go organic or not?

Recommended Posts

Speaking with my surgeon last Friday we talked about organic vs whatever I find in the store. I let him I am unemployed now and pricey special foods for a family of 5 is just not in the budget. So he gave me website to checkout called greenpolkadot.com

I not sure if there is a "the" in front or not....anyway, This site is awesome for those looking for great priced organic food. I am still looking at all the things they have, but I'm just not sure if organic is worth the trouble. I know, I know there are some on here that probably only eat organic..God bless, good job. I'm not knocking it, I'm curious about it. The commissary carries organic fruits and veggies, I may start with that and see how it goes.

Anyway, just wanted to share the website with ya'll.

From a glance, Trader Joe's prices are better than that website www.greenpolkadotbox.com. Whole foods is generally too expensive, although their own brand 365 is relatively cheap. Farmer's markets accept WIC now, at least in Washington State (assuming you might qualify). I generally only buy organic for milk/dairy/eggs or when it's the best price. I always buy milk organic because of all the meds and hormones used in factory farming, plus my daughter drinks about a gallon every 4 days by herself. I buy eggs organic because of personal ethical issues. Safeway here carries organics now at comparable prices, their own "O" organic brand is as cheap or cheaper than generics. CSA's are an option here in WA, but they are kind of pricey.

Thanks for the link to the site, I'll keep browsing and see if it's a good option for us.

If I had more money I would buy much more organic but fact is I can not afford it. I do look for cage free or grass fed. Best of luck .

I wish we had a Trader Joes here, Whole Foods is very expensive and a 40 min. drive.

Most of the supermarkets now have organic produce like Path-mark, stop and shop, etc even Walmart has organic stuff too, don't forget with whole foods, you're paying for the ambience and recycled brown paper bags etc. I get my meats at whole foods but you can find better priced items of the same quality at your local grocery.

HI!

Here is a link to the "the 12 foods to eat organic", which might help. You might be able to eat non-organic in general, but eat these foods only if they are organic. It could put less of a load on your filtering organs.

I hope this helps!

Actually, here is what might be a better link. It has the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen!

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
