Day 2 Post-Op. Muscle Soreness

Recommended Posts

Ok so eveything had been going well untill last night. After being released from the hospital yesterday, my husband and I ran some errands and I did quite a bit of walking. I was very tired when we arrived home so I changed and went to lay down. After about an hour I tried to get up and walk around and I could barely move. I felt as if I had been run over by a truck. Every muscle in my body is sore and achy. My throat hurts and it is hard to swallow. Is this to be expected or should I call the doc? Please advise :(

Hi lolo,

Expected! It happened to me after I went to mall one day after post op. I'm post op 10 days but its expected. Don't over due it or you'll get a cold like me now. Heating pad. Muscle soreness is expected. I have it everyday especially I'm my abs and back.

Thank you rolakhouri! I have been getting up and walking around for a few minutes every couple of hours and it seems to ease the pain some. Cant wait till I feel better. Im not really a stay in bed kinda person. Lol :)

Give your body a little time to recover. We should be active immediately post-op, but two days post-op I consider active walking around the house or maybe down the block... not really shopping. If I lay down or sit too long, it's really hard to get back up because I get stiff and all sore all over again.

Don't overdo it because it will increase your overall recovery time. And the sore throat is from the tube they insert during surgery. That should go away pretty quickly.

Make sure to get your fluids! I was the same way and found that I was dehydrated! I drank tea with Splenda and it really helped with my hydration. After I was properly hydrated, I felt like a new person. I am 6 days post op and can say it does get better every day :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
