Benicar HCT, Metformin, and Effexor... these are a few of my favorite things...

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone else takes these with the band? Pharmacist says that Benicar HCT can be cut, Metformin can be cut, but Effexor must be left alone.

Here I thought I could have a druggie slush for Breakfast and be done with it.:)

Druggie slush? Fix me one please. :) I also take Effexor (I do take the XR though) and I have heard from some here at LBT say they still take the Effexor, some say they can break up the capsule based in info from the drug maker and still others say their surgeon switched them to something else. I have heard my surgeon prefers Lexapro and I have not been able to have this conversation with him. I think you should also consult your surgeon on this after getting feedback here. Make a list of questions for him/her based on advice given here. Good luck!!

Too darn funny.....My drugs are similar. Benicar, Metformin, Lipitor. I crunch the Metformin in my mouth and swallow, salty yuck taste but it only lasts a second. I know it sound disgusting but it is the most convenient way I have found for me since I take them 2-3 times a day. I was cutting Benicar in half when I still took it. I dont need it anymore, went from borderline high bp to normal!! I have no clue on the Effexor.

I edited to add that my dr. told me you should NEVER crush an extended release med. Ask your doctor on that one before you do it.

Oh my I don't think I could chew a metforman YUCK!! I crushed my pills for a while but I just got a pill cutter and cut them in quarters then you don't have to taste it! XR or SR extended/sustained release tablets cannot be crushed you don't get an even dose and that could be dangerous!!

I take Metformin which I cut into pieces. My Effexor XL is capsule form. My pharmacist said I can open it and mix with any "mushie". I have on occasion even opened the capsule over my open mouth and then took a swallow of liquid. I've had no problems.

I take Metformin and don't have to cut or crush it at all - goes right down, although I am careful, and have to be mindful while taking it....not like before, when I could down two in a gulp.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
