Band Coming Out On Tuesday....too Late To Ask For Sleeve?~!

Recommended Posts

I've just been reading the posts and I guess I should ask my surgeon about this....but I'm getting this thing out because of severe acid reflux (erosions, vomiting blood, getting stuck with every bite). I'm so excited about life after lap band removal that i hadn't even considered getting a sleeve. it's probably too late to get into this with my doc, but i also can't afford ANY more time off of work for ANYTHING....including more surgery and recovery time.

How did you all approach the conversion>

Thanks

He said it had to come out, I said I want a bypass, he said why, I said xyz..piece of cake. Recovery isn't really much different than just recovering from the removal I hear. I still had 6 weeks no lifting, I am taking off a full week when I do the bypass, I returned on day 5 post op after band removal.

Im getting my band removed on Nov 1st and revised to a sleeve. I discussed it with my doct and told him "I refused to get off that table without a sleeve or put the band back" I didnt want to go back to where I was before the band. Lol

Hey, good luck and let me know how it went. I'm seeing my Dr. tomorrow and still feel the same as you. My Dr. want to wait 6 months before sleeve, but my appetite has gotten so big now that I've had .5cc taken out. I can't imagine going 6 months without anything.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
