At 4 Months, 40Lbs Down, The Flipped Port.

Recommended Posts

Am mad bc I have loved my band, done well, never vomited, and feel great. I am self pay so I am currently paying payments for the surgery and now I have to get another one at the cost of 3000.00. Anyone know what causes a flipped port?

A flipped port can happen because it wasn't stitched down properly or because of some movement or exercise that you have done, possibly prematurely, that causes the muscle and therefore the port to move. It is quite a common occurrence but the fix is usually pretty simple. $3000 sounds like a lot of money to pay for them to correct this. Have you queried it?

I didn't work out until released. But I did not ask why it was 3000. Insurance won't pay anything. Do you know what others pay?

I'm not sure. Are they doing this as an in hospital under general anaesthetic procedure or an in the Dr's rooms under local procedure? The latter should be a lot cheaper and I believe it can be done that way but I couldn't say that with 100% certainty. You may want to ask.

Port Flip or Relocation – Sometimes the port moves from the position your surgeon placed it in during Lap-Band surgery. If it manages to flip upside down it will not be accessible for fills and a small, outpatient procedure will be needed to get it back into place and right side up. Most port repairs can be done under local anesthesia and are relatively common and routine for your surgeon to perform.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
