Hi my surgery date is for October 25th. He hasn't mentioned a pre op diet. Does EVERYONE usually do a pre op diet or all liquid prior to sx??

My doctor didn't put me on a pre op diet at all. Just nothing to eat past noon on the day before surgery. I was lucky I guess!

I didn't have one

All Drs are different. Some do & some do 't. I was lucky , my Dr. Just put me on a 1200cal diet & told me to lose 5lbs.

It all depends but if your doctor is going to require one it won't be until about 2 weeks before surgery.

Mine did not put me on one either, he just said nothing by mouth from the night before. So I asked him why, he said my BMI is not as high to require it. So I think they go by that....I guess there's a cutting off number when you do not require it.

some do and some dont. i guess it just depends on your surgeon. i had a 2 week all liquid diet and had to stop all liquids at midnight before surgery.

weird huh.....that so many different stories/things/situations.

I had to do a five day liquid diet and that was to shrink my liver to make it easier to place the band.

I weighed 600 before surgery with a bmi of 70. So it all depends on your surgeons preferance....don't think bmi plays into their decision at all....my doc said some do because some think it shrinks the liver....mine said through all 3500+ he's done he didn't notice much difference with or without the pre op diet.

I had to do a 2wk protein shake diet before my surgery. I had my surgery on 8/28/12 and I'm still on liquid diet because my stomach needs to heal. I get my first fill in 6wks.

No pre-op diet here either. Just liquids the day before and nothing to eat or drink after midnight on night before.

What's your BMI?
