Commitment
WLS can't make you happy. Being happy is a state of mind not a size. Figure out what is making you unhappy and address that issue. If you are ready to be healthier the go for WLS

Eating Mushies And Beyond- Advice Please
I thought it was just me. I don't even have the desire to eat. I literally forget to eat. I live alone and I'm off work for four weeks. Before the band that would have meant ordering food and lots of snack foods. Now I have to make myself eat. I used to hate drinking water...now I can't get enough. Wow...

Does Fhis Look Infected?
Keep in mind if it is an internal infection it may not ooze or feel warm. The incision may be warning you of what's going on inside. Go to an urgent care

Pain
I am 7 days post op and still have moments that make me almost double over in pain. It is natural because we use our abdomen for everything and it has been through trauma. It gets better though. I only have the pain when I'm up and about a lot. REST REST REST!!!

Find a social service agency that helps people in your predicament. Most cities have a service that allows you to dial 211 and they can direct you to some that can help. Praying for you!

Post Surgery: Why Am I Seeing More And More Surgeons Put Saline In The Band At The Time Of Surgery?
My surgeon said he does it to flush the band to avoid installing a faulty band. He also has some 1500 surgeries and has found very few people who have hit the green zone at 2-3 CCC's which is what they put in. My first fill is at 4 weeks and I'll get taken to 5cc's. They feel on average that it takes between 6-8 to get to green.

Left Shoulder Pain
I read somewhere that there is a nerve in your abdomen that runs to the left shoulder. I get the pain that you are talking about when I'm hungry and start eating too fast. It feels like a pulled muscle and makes me slow down. Strange huh?

Down 10Lbs - 1 Week Post Op
YAAAAA! 240 to 230...next goal 220 by 9/30. I know this time is about healing. I also know that there is limited to no restriction in the band. However the band won't keep me from eating less and healthy so I can do this.

How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
I agree. They rude and mean responses were uncalled for. I had a cyst bust from under my skin. It is possible and we may not understand her plight because we are all in higher BMI's but she didn't ask for judgement just advice. I had a nurse tell me during my pre-op process that I wasn't big enough to need Lapband. She was going based on my appearance. I carry my weight well. However I am 5'5" and was 240 pre-surgery (6 days post-op at 233 -yayy!). That is a 43 BMI. I said that to say if any of us make it to a 22 BMI we won't be removing our bands and some of us may strive to 18. Will we remove our bands? Then don't judge her...give advice or move on. She is young and just looking for an ear. Rememer being supportive doesn't mean you have to agree

Sick Of Protein Shakes!
I use Boost shakes but can only get one in a day now. I am onto mushies so it is better because I can blend soups. How long do you have to do just liquids?

I Give Up...
You can succeed at this. You have to decide you are worth it, take ownership of your process and get the fills you need. Go see your nutritionist and psychologist that you saw before you started. Don't say "I can't" until you've truly tried everything you "can" to get back on track. I have lost and regained 52lbs on weight watchers. I know how much that discourages you. Don't wait three years like I did to decide I was worth starting over!

Countdown
Good luck! It is not a bad recovery at all. Take it easy and have your liquids and mushies ready. Have a variety of options-salty, sweet, creamy, liquid...it helps get the calories in. Believe it or not that is the hardest part the first few days! My dietitian used a formula. (Current Weight-Ideal medical Weight) X .6 = Goal Weight

Surgery In The Morning
I had mine 8/22. It was not bad at all. Take your pain meds and take it very easy. The first month is about healing!

New Life Started & Now I Need Advice
I had mine 8/22. I started at 240...came home at 249...I'm now 234. Focus on healing! You are going to be fine unless you keep worrying...then you'll get discouraged and are at more risk to get off track. You made a huge commitment to change your life and you will be successful because you now have the tools to be!

New Here
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I am glad to hear that you are focusing on your own health while you focus on hers. Mom's often forget about themselves and that is not the right thing to do. Getting health is for you and for your family! I am five days post op. I have had minimal pain and so far I have lost 6lbs from the day of surgery. The goal isn't to lose right now but if I can heal properly, eat right and lose I'll take it. Good luck on your journey!

New Here!!!
They recovery period is not easy but it is worth it. I'm three days in and so excited about what is to come. Remember the recovery is just a moment in time. This too shall pass!

Banded Yesterday
I was banded on Wednesday and couldn't lay on either side at first now I can lay on my right side (port is on left). I am also finally able to hold my belly to control the pain when I walk. It is already getting better and I'm one day ahead of you. Sleep as much as you can...it helped the time pass for me. I walked a little but sleep kept me from being frustrated
