Hey everyone...I suppose, I have a stupid question...but I'm going to ask it anyway.

So last Thursday I went in for my 1 month post-op visit. The DR cleared me to exercise. Since then I've been at the gym everyday doing 1hr cardio (couch to 5K and either elliptical or stair master) I alternate weights every other day. Since I started the gym I have not lost weight. I was losing every week up until this week. I actually gained a lb. :-( I'm kinda bummed and worried that I'm going to fail. I called the DR but they didn't return my call. I guess I just want to know if this is normal, or if anyone has experienced this and if I should not go to the gym until I get to goal?

when you use your muscles they retain Water. Exercise is my savior, I think it is just as important as my band! Keep up the good work, the benefits will be amazing! Good Luck!

You're normal. I lost weight the 1st month and then plateaued for the next. I have my 3 month post op appointment next week. I think I'm losing again, but it's slow. Also, I'm at the gym a lot. I'm running a half marathon in 5 weeks. I'm eating ok too. I track calories. I think you're body is just settling after the surgery and initial weight loss. And now your body is dealing with the gym. I say dont go too fast too soon. You'll do great and start to lose again.

Hi, Jess, you're ok, I am 3 wks post op and have been getting in a lot of walking, no fills yet. The dietician says not to worry, it will come. She reminded me to look at the big picture (our health) and not just the (numbers).

Did you do your measurements prior to starting to work out at the gym. This is what happened to me, one month I drop weight and only lose a few inches, next month I drop no weight or maybe gain a pound and drop a lot of inches. When I first started lifting weights with my trainer, I gained 3 lbs the first 2 weeks. I had to make some adjustments in my diet. I cut out carbs and dairy for a few months until my body got used to the increased activity and strength training. I admire you for starting to exercise so early in your journey, keep up the good work, make sure you are eating enough Protein. If you are working out on a regular basis it is very important that you eat all of your protein so your body will burn fat and allow you to build muscle. Good luck.

1) if your working out you may be gaining weight, but not fat. You may be gaining muscle weight

2) sometimes our bodies don't lose pounds, just inches (which rocks too!)

I think its great your running in the marathon. VERY COOL! :-) Thats one of my goals too. I will take it slow. Thx for your words. :-)

You so right! The big picture is health not the pounds. I will keep that in mind as well. I have not had any fills yet either. Good luck and thx so much. :-)

I did not measure myself (silly me). I should of. I am only aloud to eat 4oz of protein 3X a day and 1 protien drink 1X a day. Ive been strict on the plan. I guess my body has to get use to the gym. And like u said the body has to get use to it. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your advice. Off to the gym i go. :-)

Sounds crazy, but after 2-3 days of not going to the gym I find I lose some weight. I think it has to do with the muscles retaining water/swelling after exercise.

I lost 30lbs before surgery, during my 6 month supervised diet.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
