Hi Everyone,

I just thought I would take a moment to introduce myself. I have not had lab-band surgery, nor am I scheduled to. I am actually just starting the research process on it now. I am going to attend a information session on it at our local hospital on Wednesday night to hear two physicians speak about it and learn more about my options and if I might be a candidate.

I am married to a wonderful man who is very supportive of me. I have two beautiful kids (13 and 15) and three lovely stepchildren as well. I have been fighting obesity for 20 years now. I am approximatley 140 pounds overweight and am starting to experience health issues related to my weight. I have tried numerous programs without much success. Which, is why I have decided to research lap-banding. When googleing it, I found this site and hope to gain a lot of insight here from others who are going through the approval process and/or have already had the surgery done.

I look forward to getting to know you and learning from you.

Susan

Welcome Susan: I am pre-op, I am hopefully scheduled to meet with my doc tomorrow and set a date for the band. I can tell you a friend told me about this site and I have been on it now somtimes three or four times a day just to see how others are doing. I was very skeptic when I first learned about the band, was set to have the other surgery.(Thank you God) I did not and instead went through all the processes myself. I am self pay because my insurance will not cover this.

Even so I am getting it done so I can live longer and walk with my bride and enjoy life as we grow old togeter!!!!!!!!!

I hope to hear good things from you in the future...........

Yay! Another Susan. Great name :(

Welcome to LBT Susan. As Karen said, there is a lot of great information here. Check out the FAQ (frequently asked questions) Forum for some good info about the bands themselves as well as some studies done on the band. In the general discussion forum, you'll find the before and after pics. I believe the FAQ forum also has a thread with great links to other sites which have info on the band. Yup, you'll be up for days with no sleep now! LOL

Glad youre here. Dont be shy about asking questions. We all love to discuss our journeys.

Thanks for the welcome. After doing a lot of reading on here last night, I am really looking forward to attending the informational seminar they are having at St. Vincent's tomorrow night. My husband will be attending with me, he offers me such great support!

So what did you think of the informational meeting with the drs? I did most of my research online as I lived 2 hrs from the dr. I chose. I am 6days post-op and am doing SO MUCH better each day! I am loving the outcome already. I have around 160lbs to lose and have already lost 20lbs of that so far--great incentive to keep going! My husband is great support as well which is a HUGE blessing! Be blessed! Melody

Hi Melody,

I enjoyed the meeting. I had pretty much done all my research and knew everything they discussed in the 6 months prior to the meeting. But, I wanted my husband to hear it. It went very well. The doctors provided a lot of excellent information on what they would expect of us and what we could expect. After going to the meeting, I am even more pumped and ready to be a bander.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
