Diarrhea After Eating

Recommended Posts

I Was banded 8 weeks ago and have had one fill. I'm at 3.8cc in a 10cc band. Most if the time after eating I get diarrhea. Prior to surgery I had IBS-c. It wouldn't be a problem except sometimes there it not alot of warning. I mentioned to my Dr and he said lap banders don't usually have dumping syndrome like bypass patients. Anyone else have this issue?

I was diagnosed with IBS 4 yrs ago with constant diarrhea after eating and went on Cholestyramine powder with juice and it solved my issues. Then I had surgery, I'm 9 weeks post op today and I no longer take the meds cause I stay constipated, I guess cause I no longer eat fatty foods. My surgeon mentioned this to me that I may no longer need the meds and he was right. I may have the occasional diarrhea but not very often. Hope this helps.

I've had IBS for over 10 years & had my band 2 weeks. I haven't been taking my meds either bc I'm not eating bad. But my lactose intolerance has come back. Can't do cottage cheese, yogurt or even fudgsicles. I tried the lactaid pills & they made me so bloated & uncomfortable so I've just been avoiding dairy.

I haven't noticed a particular food causing it to happen. I guess I will pay more attention. I have days of Constipation and then these occasional meals that seem to go right through me. Hopefully it will eventually work itself out once I get to my green zone. Thanks for your help.

I would keep a record of what you're eating & what the effects are so you can see if there's a trend. That's how I figured out it was the dairy. Its a bummer but better than being miserable. Good luck!

Luvs80s - that is a good idea. Knowing I had bowel problems before surgery, I figured I'd have some kind of problem after. My Dr just said dumping shouldnt happen with Lap Band like it does with Gastric Bypass, lol.

I ate canned fruit on the liquid diet pre op & o...m...g... It was horrible. It was no sugar added in Water just like for after surgery but whatever artificial crap they put instead of sugar did not agree with me. It was hours of me feeling horrible followed by you know what. I try to stay away from artificial sweeteners but the dietician said its fine. Well apparently not for me :(

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
