Hunger Waking Me Up At Night

Recommended Posts

I was banded 1 week ago. I'm on the mushy food phase. My problem is that I do like my doctor says and eat until I am full. I go to bed at night and I am jolted awake 2-3 hours after going to be by a growling stomach. I cannot go back to sleep unless I eat something.

I know this is not good. I try to eat fat free pudding or applesauce. Don't know what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I cannot keep eating in the middle of the night!

Protein takes longer to digest and keeps you full longer so I would suggest a Protein Shake or something else with high protein before bed. Low fat cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, or Greek yogurt are all good choices and fit into the mushie food phase.

I used to eat a couple teaspoons of Peanut Butter right before bed and that worked.

A Protein Shake before bed is a definite winner...I know that I'm unable to fall asleep if I'm feeling hungry. I'm fine once asleep; I've never been woken up by hunger.

Protein is the key and will work. Even with your dinner use a low fat greek yogurt because it is thick and is very high in protein. if you do not like greek yogurt ad a splendar to it and it will sweeten it up.

If you wake up hungry in the middle of the night then drink a glass of milk.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
